NYC Adventure, Part 2: Central Park
What’s up blog? In Blog Time, we are in the middle of the afternoon last Tuesday, and Josh and I have just hopped aboard a “pedicab” to ride around Central Park.
Because I am cheap I was fully prepared to just pay 60 bucks for 30 minutes for the ride to “Imagine”, the John Lennon tribute, but my husband is more easily manipulated and let the pedicab owner coax him into paying for the full hour tour.
Was it worth it? Absolutely. Especially once we saw how underwhelming “Imagine” was, heh.
The pedicab driver’s name was Beck (I said, “Oh, like the singer?” and he said, “Who?”) and he regaled us during the ride about all of the movies made in Central Park. Most of them we hadn’t seen. Oh well.
The fountain was beautiful.
Tuesday was still very warm and humid, and thank goodness–it didn’t rain on us at all during our tour of Central Park.
Near the fountain is a tunnel with the most incredible tile work.
Very romantic, even with some homeless people hanging around. Homeless people in New York are very polite. Portland Oregon? Not so much.
Beck stopped the pedicab at several points during the tour so we could take pictures. The “Rainbow Bridge” was another popular stop.
It is a beautiful bridge.
Beck offered to take some photos of us, which was nice.
The water was filled with plump, spoiled turtles.
Sigh!
Your friends, on the Rainbow Bridge. Gee, can you tell our favorite color is blue?
Panoramic. Nice skills, Beck!
Josh’s blue hair faded pretty dramatically over the course of the week. I should probably take some pictures of his hair this evening before it starts fading again.
“Imagine” tilework. Not shown: homeless people sitting around strumming guitars and singing various Beatles’ songs, and artists peddling John Lennon portraits.
After the ride through Central Park, Beck wove us through traffic at an insane pace to return to his pedicab station. I have never been so close to major traffic before, literally. I could reach out and touch the cars! IT WAS TERRIFYING–but I was so exhausted from the 5 mile run and the humidity that I somehow felt relaxed. My mother would have passed out! Actually, she would have hopped right out.
Josh compared Beck’s driving to “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”. I asked Beck questions about the buildings, but his knowledge was apparently limited to Central Park only. Heigh ho.
Pricey, for sure, but the pedicab ride was definitely a fun thing to do in NYC. Once!
On the way to the MOMA, I spied this fabbuu glitter skull purse. Mmmm hmmmmmm.
Hello Tiffany’s! We didn’t have any interest in going inside.
This storefront caught my eye. Art! Art!
Speaking of art, our trip to the MOMA is up next! Get ready for an explosion of Warhol and Matisse and MORE!
