Back in the rain again
We’re baaaaack! We arrived back home yesterday morning. Saturday after leaving Kauai we flew to Honolulu and spent our 6 hour layover in the odd Honolulu airport, took a night plane from Honolulu to San Francisco, and then hopped aboard a third plane at 6 in the morning Sunday to fly home to Seattle. Needless to say, yesterday was a wash–major jet lag! Josh and I took a nice 3 hour nap yesterday (my mother tried to nap but read instead). When we woke up later we decided the best plan for the evening was to snarf Burgermaster and watch Season 3 of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” (the best season).
Mother and daughter, before we left for Kauai. My mother flew to Seattle to dogsit for the 9 days we spent in Kauai. It was incredibly kind of her to use her vacation time to spend with my pets but also nice to see her–I don’t see my family nearly often enough. It stinks. I took the day off from work today (I have to make it up on Saturday) to spend more time with her and drive her to the airport.
These photos are from the night before we left on our vacation (the next morning I was up at 3:30, vibrating with excitement and unable to fall back asleep). We took my mother to the dog park, a place that she would spend some quality time at the following week. Would you believe that the weather was unseasonably HOT nearly the entire week we were in Kauai? Like 80 degrees hot? TYPICAL, SEATTLE.
Ah well, at least my mother got to see Seattle in some sunshine. It’s always terrible when you have a houseguest from another state and Seattle actually rains, like the stereotype. Nobody likes that stuff.
Mumsie and Josh. She was pretty cold that first night at the dogpark–it was cold when we left, and it’s been raining ever since we got back. My mother is an impeccable houseguest–she cleaned up, she made us eggs when we were horribly jet lagged, she didn’t spend any of the money we left her (even though we wanted her to!) and best of all, she absolutely adores Maggie and Bear Cub and treated them better than anyone else would. I love you Mom!
Mom on the phone with Pops. She wanted him to fly up and surprise her, but he had some skin cancer chopped out from behind his ear that week (he’s cancer-free now) and didn’t make it. My Aunt Lisa also considered visiting but ended up visiting her husband’s family instead. So it was just my mother and two black dogs for the duration of the week, and she finally got some rest, which is what she really, really needed. It worked out nicely for everyone!
NOW! I uploaded 1200 Kauai pictures last night onto the computer. “Not too shabby,” I thought, remembering the 2000+ photos from Maui…until Josh reminded me that he took at least 1000 pictures on his iPhone alone. Oh yeah. He’s been obsessively documenting our trip via his Instagram here; I’ve been obsessively documenting our trip via my Instagram here, and the other 1200 photos will be edited in batches and blogged right here on good old Glitter for All when I have the time and inclination. It’s going to take a looooooooong time. However, it’s worth it! Kauai was incredible! I’ll be back to talk about it soon.
