Easter/birthday Extravaganza!
Welcome to an Extra Long Blog Entry Featuring a Huge Photo Dump, because who knows when I’ll be blogging again! It’s gonna be a while. This is last Sunday morning, after church. We woke up super early and went to an early Easter church service…it had been a looooong time since we’d gone to church. The message was “God is Love” and we took communion, so it was a good experience. Outside the church we spotted a wild bunny rabbit and frantically took some pictures before it hopped away. Adorable.
I suppose this is an “outtake” but I love it because look at happy Bear Cub running up to greet me! I felt cute that day. I bought that dress a couple of years ago from Modcloth but I’ve been too chubby to wear it properly, and now it fits. It’s the sort of pastel fluff that really only is appropriate in the springtime. It also kind of looks like an Easter egg.
Really into these nude Capezio fishnets I bought recently. They’re a little dressier than just a bare leg, for work, but also let my legs BREATHE which is important when you’re running around all day like a maniac, sweating profusely. As I do.
Later on in the day we picked up the Broad and drove over to Josh’s grandparents’ house for Easter dinner and an early birthday celebration for the old man. Tori took this photo of Corinne and I. Look, it’s the Sober Sister’s drink of choice: ginger ale!
Tori works it out for me. I let her “borrow” my camera for 20 minutes or so (which later on everyone told me was crazy). This girl is selfie/camera/video OBSESSED…just like me!
Her self-portrait. Not too shabby for a 10-year-old, right?
This is a great candid shot of James and Jax that she captured. I didn’t crop it.
The Easter egg carnage in the backyard. I asked Tori why some of the plastic eggs were crushed, and she told me they were smashing them with their feet.
“Why?” I asked her.
“Because it’s fun!” she told me incredulously, like duuuuuh, why else would you smash perfectly good plastic Easter eggs with your feet? Kids these days.
Lew entertaining the table, after the delicious Easter feast. Shirley is an amazing cook–she made ham, a huge tray of cheesy scalloped mashed potatoes that we all ate too much of, fresh salad, asparagus. She also made an array of gluten-free items since about half of Josh’s cousins are suddenly gluten-free.
I made Josh an enormous Devil’s Food cake with dark chocolate frosting (mmmm), covered in rainbow sprinkles. It turned out pretty tasty, except for the fact that the frosting kept sliding off the cake. Instead of laboring over adding 40 candles to the cake, I just added two: a 4 and a 0. I had a hard time lighting the candles with Shirley’s vintage matches, but luckily one of the cousins came to my rescue. We feasted on the birthday cake with a choice of vanilla bean or mint chocolate chip ice cream. Joshy received his cards and a “gift” from his uncle of some used magazines and a book that he is expected to give back. Keep it classy, Mike!
On his actual birthday the next day, he opened the rest of his cards and presents from me. His mother made him the most adorable card shaped like a Hawaiian shirt, with a check tucked inside. My mother sent a cat card (no dog card this year?!).
This was one of my cards (two card minimum in this family).
I got him a Runtastic heart rate monitor (his choice) and monogrammed handkerchiefs (my choice). His “big” present was a brand-new pair of ski boots–the first new pair he’s ever had (mawww).
A birthday smooch before driving to Fremont to go to Chiso Sushi.
Showing off my neon green pettipants to a rambunctious Bear Cub. I still have a few for sale!
Josh requested that I wear this dress, so I obliged. It’s still one of my favorite Goodwill finds. The peace sign glitter belt was in the children’s section of Fred Meyer (score).
Although I made us a reservation at Chiso Sushi for 7 o’clock, it wasn’t needed. It was not busy at all on Monday night, which was just fine by me.
Extremely hungry here. Louis C.K. says we shouldn’t say we’re “starving”, so I wasn’t STARVING, but man was I hungry.
Josh’s hungry face. He likes to order an “old fashioned” drink sometimes when we go out…thanks “Mad Men” for that idea! (groan)
Happy happy sushi face! Every single thing we had was delicious, from the tempura-fried vegetables to the sashimi to the rolls that I ordered. I made “yummy” noises like Bill Murray in “What About Bob?” pretty much the entire time, and at one point Josh’s eyes rolled to the back of his head in bliss. If you ever want to have sushi in Seattle, this is the place to go. Well, I’m sure there are tons of places to go, but this one is especially good.
Oof! That was a lot of pictures. I’m about to get my nails did with the Broad. Josh and I watched “Drag Race” last night, but I don’t have time to recap it. So many things still left to do! Catch you on the flip side, blog-logs, I’m off to Paradise.
