A posh affair
Joshy snapped a few pictures of me getting ready to go out Saturday night. Corinne had asked me over a month ago if I would be her +1 at a (gay) wedding reception, and I happily agreed. Unfortunately I was not feeling it, although usually on period day 2 I’m not feeling much of anything…except cramps, bloating, intense chocolate cravings. Womanly bullshit.
Josh kept reassuring me that I looked “cute”, but you know how it never sounds as good coming from your spouse’s mouth? Terrible, but true. One of my tablemates at the wedding was talking to me about cheese, and she exclaimed, “But you’re so skinny!” I enjoyed that compliment. “It’s hard work,” I replied, shaking my head sadly. Oh it is. IT IS.
Corinne shows off a little leg. Turns out in our black and sequins we were dressed 100% appropriately for this wedding reception. The colors were white, black, and grey, and it was extremely posh. The catering was excellent–we feasted on chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans, and decadent chocolate cupcakes for dessert.
I managed to pull my Broad onto the dance floor for a couple of tunes, although she staunchly refused to get up for “Blurred Lines”, because of the scandalous video and subsequent feminist outrage.
“Forget that!” I yelled at her as I bobbled around. “It’s got a great beat!” Nope. She had no problem getting down to Justin Timberlake, though. That’s my Broad!
We arrived late, but ended up being right on time, because we were able to skip the wine-and-cocktail-saturated beginning and shoot straight for mealtime. One of the grooms is a co-worker of Corinne’s, and there were plenty of other co-workers at the reception, which I liked. Josh and I always wondered if we were loser-ish for inviting so many of our co-workers to our wedding. I guess we’re not the only ones!
I didn’t take very many pictures–it’s kind of awkward taking photos at a wedding if you don’t know anyone, unless you’re getting paid to do so. I had to nab a shot of one of the adorable little flower girls, though–dressed in glittery black tulle with silver glitter stockings, and ringlets. So cute!
It was an enjoyable experience, overall. Good food, a few good songs to dance to, two extremely drunken grooms–and one helluva Broad-ish grandma, who was shaking it all around on the dancefloor and stuffing decorative bouquets into her bodice. “I’m glad we don’t drink any more,” I whispered to Corinne as we watched her. We parked at the convention center and somehow managed to walk all over the wrong parking garage before we found the right one and located my car, something that directionally-challenged people like us are always afraid will happen. Well, it happened! And it wasn’t too bad! We got a lot of extra walking in, sheee-yit. Overall I was happy that Corinne invited me to be her +1. It was a happy wedding, and it put me in a good mood.
In other news, I found out on Friday that I will be starting a 13-week job this Wednesday, YAY! I’ve been home for 2 weeks now and I’m really really really ready to go back to work. Oh sure, it’s been great obsessively watching “American Horror Story” and doing art projects but enough is enough, I need some money, honey. Coming up tomorrow: obnoxious photos featuring my new vintage neon polyester dress! Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh.
