Camping at Lake Hyas Part 5: neon floaties, bubble butts, and the end

BC in the meadow
It’s time for the last of the Hyas Lake pictures…also the last of the summer pictures…the last of the warm weather pictures…and probably the last time I’ll be in a bikini this year. Sniff. Sob.

A short (shaky) video of Little Hyas Lake, where we hiked to the second day. Bear Cub is enjoying herself in this video!

butterfly moth on sock
One of those weird butterfly/moths that kept clinging to us the second day. At first we were dazzled, then we were just annoyed. This one stayed on the sock (drying out on the tent) for most of the second day.

sunspots over Cathedral Rock
The butterfly/moths left us alone while we were at the “beach”! It was just a patch of grass, not a sandy beach, but that was fine with me. We brought our little inflatable sleeping pads down, the rogs, and some snacks and set up to spend a couple hours in the sun before heading back home.

relaxing rogs
Maggie and Bear Cub love camping. This was Bear Cub’s first time with a backpack on, and she did so well! If Maggie wasn’t so old with temperamental hind legs, she would have carried a pack as well. We saw several dogs with packs on the trail.

mountaintops
Don’t worry, Hyas Lake. I suspect we’ll be seeing each other again.

Liz and Maggie and the neon floatie
Time to break out that neon floatie! My feet were wedged into the 5 fingers at this moment and KILLING ME, but they stopped once I started swimming.

preparing for liftoff
The floatie wasn’t large enough for me to stand in, so I just had to sort of flop my body onto it and then flail around. You know, like a lady (said in “Little Britain” voice)

happy neon floating
Alriiiiight. I had been wanting to bring a floatie for ages. Every time we go camping, I make a list of things I wish we had brought, and then ultimately by the 2nd or 3rd trip in the summer we remember everything. Hot cocoa. Marshmallows. Neon floaties. I attempted “glamping” this time around by bringing my lipstain but forget it–glamping is way easier when you don’t have to carry everything on your back.

neon on neon
Neon on neon!

a floating bubble butt
Then it was Bubble Butt’s turn. He’s taking advantage of the 15 minutes of sunshine we’ve had today and mowing the lawn. Later we’re going to finish up the third season of “Portlandia”. If you’ve never seen the show, just skip the first and second seasons and watch the third. It’s so funny!

BC watching Josh float
Tomorrow we meet with my fertility doctor to discuss the next step. I went through 3 rounds of Clomid and no babies, so the next step is sperm washing. FINGERS CROSSED IT WORKS. I would have a June baby! A June baby would be nice. Hell, any month baby would be nice.

a pleasing mountain scene
One of my favorite sights: three furry creatures and a beautiful lake. Siiiiigh. I’m so happy we were able to camp a second time!

Josh picked wild mountain blueberries during his hike last weekend, so tonight I’m going to turn them into something delicious. Cobbler, perhaps? Mmmm. I can taste it already.
