A long bike ride, Gasworks Park, and John Waters
Happy Saturday morning, blog! I was up at 6 this morning but despite that, I’m in a good mood. After purchasing my bike helmet years ago (chosen for the neon swirly design and not for comfort, of course), I had been plotting to put stickers all over it to amp it up. So last Sunday before our bike ride I finally did it. Does it look like a helmet belonging to a 5-year-old? Uh huh. Do I mind? NOPE! In fact, I think it needs more.
For my bike riding outfit I wore an old biking shirt of Josh’s (made by his grandmother) that has large pockets on the back to hold my bike riding necessities: iphone, lipbalm, and a Clif bar. I also wore his padded bike shorts (with another pair of loose-fitting shorts of mine over the top–I’m not crazy enough to wear bike shorts in public) (ew).
What really tied the whole outfit together, however, was my lipstain from Make-Up Forever! IT LASTED THROUGH A 32 MILE BIKE RIDE. I’ve never had a lipstain do that before. That stuff is genius!
We rode on the Burke-Gilman trail, from Bothell all the way to Gasworks Park, the longest bike ride I’ve ever done in my life. We saw lots of cool sights along the way, like this magical little forest dwelling! I was in love.
When we finally arrived at Gasworks Park (and I collapsed on the grass), the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. The sun was sparkling on the water, and there were boats, standing board riders, and gay men everywhere. What could be better?
Josh said I should tag this photo “Cirque de Weirdo” on Instagram, so I did. Besides this guy doing fancy pole work, there were several people doing parkour and we were impressed.
Other than my vagina being squashed horribly against the seat (ugh), I did pretty darn well on our bike ride. I lead the pace and Josh told me that I’m getting faster every time. We had hot dogs afterwards and they tasted AMAZING. However…I wore heels out that night (more about that later) and, starting the next day, had the WORST FOOT PAIN EVER. I can only assume it was from slamming my feet against bike pedals for hours. All week I’ve been icing, stretching, and even infrared-ing my poor old feet. And having to wear (gasp!) sensible shoes to work. Old age ain’t for sissies, friends.
Here’s my boyfriend in “Excision”. I can’t say that I recommend this movie. Ahem. It was a little too…dark. It even made me dislike Traci Lords, and I LOVE TRACI LORDS.
Today I am going to buy a new pair of (sensible) shoes, because it is the last day of August and starting tomorrow we are going on a “budget”. We have never done this “budget” thing before…we thought we’d try it for a month. No eating out, no buying coffee drinks or anything extraneous…including shoes. It’s gonna be rough, but it will be good for us. Besides that we are going to start the long, tedious process of removing pee stains from the carpet using a carpet cleaner (groan), and hopefully some sort of fun outdoorsy rog activity, because the weather is supposed to be GORG today.
Then tomorrow I will finally, after 8 loooooooong years of being with Joshy, attending PAX for the very first time. I picked a good year, apparently–it’s the 10 year anniversary. The only question is: should I wear a wig? I think I have to.
