Art show! Art show! Art show!
Right before Josh and I left for our Oregon vacation I was contacted by Amy, one of the owners of the Populuxe Brewing Company, and asked if I would like to be their Artist of the Month. Would I ever! I eagerly agreed, and spent the last three days post-vacation gathering up all of the paintings that I wanted to display, making up some fresh business cards, framing the flapper painting, and just generally being REALLY EXCITED.
Last night we drove to Ballard (I love Ballard) to Populuxe to hang up 19 of my paintings! For some reason I had thought Populuxe was a coffeehouse, WRONG, it’s actually a small, fairly new nanobrewery.
“Perfect!” I gushed to Amy, who was incredibly sweet and enthusiastic about my work. “Drunk people love my art!” (they really do).
She told me that after beer #2, art sales generally happen. Score! They will have my paintings up until October, including the Ballard Art Walks, which will be sure to generate some views.
Populuxe is only open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, but even during the 2 hour chunk of time that we were hanging the paintings, several customers came by and were sad that they were closed.
Josh, bless his heart (and his sore elbow), hung all the paintings with wire while I gabbed with Amy. Meanwhile a black dog belonging to one of the four owners wandered in and presented his back for me to scratch. Good vibes from this place, all around. Never mind that I don’t drink any more–I had an orange San Pellegrino water and Josh had a brown ale, which he deemed tasty. I politely turned down an absinthe-stippled caramel (back in the day I would have been all over that caramel).
Their signs feature dogs! And skateboarders! And the entire building is painted a gorgeous bright blue, so you can’t miss it. I really lucked out for a place to hang my art.
We hung the paintings against cement, a really nice wood-paneled wall, and a white wall. The neon colors of these four really popped against the cement. They even coordinate with the neon chalk on the beer menu!
Ta da!!! SO excited to be displaying again. I hadn’t done a show since R.A.W. back in September of 2011. After the hanging we went over to the Manse to have dinner with Brenna and Jerry, and hear about their recent 2 week trip to Australia.
So, dear blogreader, if you are in the Seattle area, please check out the Populuxe Brewing Company in Ballard! Additionally, if there is a painting you’ve had your eye on for ages, you better snap it up now over here in my Etsy shop, because they’re gonna sell like hotcakes! And thank you, Populuxe, for this fantastic opportunity!
I love your art its perfect!!
Thanks Krista! 🙂
