Upside-down Christmas trees, bad cookies, and the fam
And we’re back! The drive home yesterday was not as bad as I’d feared–mostly dry roads, some wet roads, but very minimally snowy/icy roads. We only saw one car slide (it was actually upside-down), unlike the drive to Boise where we saw 10-15 cars slide off to the side. Snow tires, people! And slow your ass down! It’s not that complicated.
What day is it, today, Friday? My sense of timing is all off. The Boy had to go back to work today, and has to work tomorrow too, unfortunately. I took this photo at some point last week, when my neighbor invited me over to look at her upside-down Christmas tree. She invited me to look at it last year, too, but this time I brought the camera. Success! Right before we left town I brought her over some of the Christmas cookies I’d made.
I made some addictive gingerbread cookies a few years ago around Christmastime, but this was the first year I made Christmas sugar cookies. The Boy made the frosting, which turned out kind of gross. We decided that corn syrup should not be used in sugar cookie frosting.
The day after we made this sad-looking batch I made up another batch of frosting, no corn syrup, but with butter, and it turned out far better. People tried to be nice about the taste of the cookies, except for one of the Boy’s co-workers. She tasted one and sputtered, “These are bad!” without knowing who made them. The Boy was standing right next to her and proudly said, “I made those!” Ha, ha. Oh, wait a minute, should we be embarrassed?
I’ve been rockin’ the floral fingernails for about a week now, since the night we saw Louis C.K. perform. They’re the Sephora brand of nail stickers and they don’t seem to last as long as the Sally Hansen brand.
The top of our Christmas tree this year. We like to keep the tree up until after the 1st.
Dressed up last Saturday to see the Boy’s family for dinner and a present exchange. The Boy is having one last breakfast with his family this morning before his parents drive back to Spokane. They were meeting in Ballard at 8:30, which, let’s face it, is too early. No one expected me to go! Thank goodness.
The Boy looking shiny after an application of aftershave. He went back to Smitty’s (home of the 5 dollar haircut) and had his hair cut really short. Next month he’s going to grow a beard out for Bearduary, and I have NO say in the matter. Siiiiiiiiigh.
Jerry always takes the kids out in our backyard to spin poi when they visit. He had never heard of poi until he saw it at our house, which amazed me. I always forget that not everyone is a Burner at heart! (they should be)
Ronia and Bear Cub have a stare down.
She’s pretty good with them, although sometimes needs to be reminded to have a “gentle touch”. Maggie growled once or twice when her tail was pulled on. Whoops.
In terms of me and my ovaries, Ronia was KILLING ME that night in her all-pink outfit and rainbow glitter tutu. Speaking of ovaries, why yes I was on my period for Christmas, of course! Maybe in 2013 I won’t be on my period for every major holiday/vacation? Plllleaaaaase?
She’s taking a gymnastics class, and was happy to show off her tumbling skills.
Fashion-wise, Ronia and I have a lot in common. She’s three, but that doesn’t bother me!
Merp? Oh yeah, I’ve been watching quite a bit of “Maude”! The treadmill is set up right next to the t.v., so I can enjoy Bea Arthur while I work up a sweat! Yee-haw!
More fam photos and Boise photos to come!
Oh god, yesterday I kept forgetting that it was Friday, too. The holidays have me all mixed up!
Ronia is SO CUTE in that tutu.
Isn’t she though? 🙂 She dresses herself, mind you.
