Birthday weekend, part 2: dinner and downtown

stars dress with smile
I’m baa-aaa-a-a-ck. I did my best in Picasa with these photos, but I’m not crazy about it. I don’t really have a lot of time to invest in finding a new photo editing program at the moment though. In the meantime, here are more pictures from my birthday weekend. Hells bells, it’s the weekend again nearly, isn’t it?

smiles
We are supposed to go out to an art show tonight. I rented “BUtterfield 8” and was sort of hoping it would inspire me to get all gussied up, but so far it’s boring. Ne’er mind, nothing like a cup of coffee and some false eyelashes for inspiration, mmmm?

the Blueacre
I wanted seafood for my special birthday dinner. The Boy did a little research and discovered the Blueacre restaurant, within walking distance of our hotel. What a classy joint! I loved all the blue throughout the place. The waiters all seemed happy. The Boy ordered a super old-fashioned drinkie-poo in keeping in with his whole “Mad Men” kick. Speaking of which, I requested he not wear his Mad Men/Mormon hair on my birthday weekend.

Josh at Blueacre
So he did it this way, old-school-Josh. I’m all for hairstyle experimentation but I don’t find his Mormon hairstyle sexy.

Liz at Blueacre
Then again, I don’t know how “sexy” my star dress was. I’m starting to worry about dressing age appropriate, because when I’m on the skinnier side I like to wear “junior” clothing (it’s cheaper!). Is that bad? Do I have to give up my silver glitter mary janes?*

crab and shrimp tater tots
I know, I know, it’s a picture of food, but I wanted to be able to remember later on that the appetizer was crab and shrimp stuffed tater tots, drizzled with horseradish sauce, and they were amazing.

satisfaction
No editing here. I simply don’t have the patience for Picasa today! My dinner consisted of the house specialty, salmon with a sauce made of port-soaked cherries and almonds, and it was probably the best salmon I’ve ever had in my life (I’ve had a lot of salmon, too). The dessert, which we ate later on in our room, was spice cake with pumpkin ice cream, which sounds weird, but was delicious. I would go back to this restaurant in a heartbeat! I’ve been recommending it to everyone.

tall blue lighted tree
It had been raining all day but cleared up after dinner, and we took a romantic stroll around downtown to gawk at the Christmas lights and people watch.

night star
We also stopped at Sephora, briefly (it was packed), so I could pick up my free birthday gift–two tiny lip balms from Fresh, which are not nearly as good as I wanted them to be. And a metallic green nail polish! And some fabulous black floral nail stickers! I don’t go to Sephora very often; I had to make it worthwhile.

pretty night trees
Love the light-covered trees.

star over carnival
Hallo again, star!

the westin hotel
Aaaaand…back to the hotel. We were both pretty damn tired that evening and didn’t want to listen to screaming children in order to enjoy the hot tub, so we stayed in.

Stay tuned for the final installment: Room service! Jumping on the bed like a lunatic! And…Pike Place Market!
