San Fran Love, Part 6: Coit Tower
Hallo, friends. Join me as we travel to Coit Tower, viewable from the Bay Bridge as seen in the photo above.
The “fun” way to get to Coit Tower is to take a series of staircases that lead all the way up the hill.
Perhaps not so fun for elderly people–it’s quite a walk! Luckily, there are a ton of beautiful flowers and plants and fancy houses to gawk at along the way.
Speaking of elderly people, we took the rogs for a 3 hour hike yesterday up an extremely steep mountain and today I can barely walk. My ass cheeks feel like they’ve been pummeled. “Good Times”?
I like this pink house with the pink flower bushes climbing all over it. I can’t even fathom how much one of these houses costs. Update: okay, I looked one up–a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house costs about 3 million dollars.
Yesterday on our hike the Boy and I got confused about directions at least 3 times, resulting in an extra 45 minutes of walking. I blame the book we used, “Best Hikes with Dogs in Western Washington”. Faulty distance measurements!
There’s the bus to Coit Tower. Pussies!
There is a parking lot at the Tower, but it’s quite small.
The Boy wearing the same shirt he wore the day before. I did some laundry at Aunt Lisa’s…we’re not that gross.
Inside the tower, on the bottom floor is a mural that extends all the way around the building. It was done in the 1930’s by students and faculty of the California School of Fine Arts.
Once inside, you buy a ticket, smoosh inside a claustrophobic elevator with about 10 other people and ride it up to the top of the tower.
You know how they say San Francisco is always foggy? Well, you can actually see the cloud layer, which is kind of cool. The Golden Gate Bridge is generally shrouded with mist.
The Bay Bridge, which we had to cross a few times to shuttle back and forth between my aunt’s house and where we stayed in the city.
You do have to take your photos through thick glass, which is kind of annoying. I suppose that’s to keep people from flinging themselves off the tower.
Really, husband? Have we not discussed my hatred of this angle like 539543934 times? Men.
Afterwards we took the elevator back down and wandered around the grounds a bit.
My rainbow sweatshirt was never more appropriate than in San Francisco.
Time to take the steps back down!
We had a delicious lunch at a deli at the bottom of the hill. The Boy had Bob Marley’s “Mellow Mood” tea.
Next up: the Castro!
I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve only heard of the Coit Tower before because you can add it to your city in SimCity. Ugh, sometimes I’m a video game nerd.
I’ve always thought I’d really enjoy living in the Bay area of California. Looks like a great trip!
Yeah, I could see myself living there too! Eeeeasy.
That Mellow Mood tea made me pass out soooo fast and I didn’t even drink the whole thing!
Really? That’s funny–it didn’t seem to affect him at all! 🙂
It looks amazing! Love your photographs. Coit Tower has always been a visitors attraction. If you stand out front of Coit Tower, you can see a nice view of the mountains off in the distance and the Statue of Christopher Columbus in the parking area. From base of Coit Tower you can see the beatiful views of the city. Always love to visit this heaven on the earth.
