San Fran Love, part 5: Haight Ashbury
Hey, kids. Ready for a massive photo dump from my favorite place in San Francisco???
Yyyyeah! We’re going to Haight Ashbury!
Haight Ashbury is colorful and fun and happy and, compared to other parts of San Francisco, relatively clean.
I am obsessed with the Painted Ladies.
The Boy scoping out Dead merch. We both ended up getting Dead t-shirts, because that’s what you do in San Francisco. I regret not getting a tiny teddy “leather” bear with earrings shaped like handcuffs. Next trip!
I love the murals everywhere. Every city should be painted like this!
We went into this cool thrift store–I don’t remember the name, but the Boy managed to get quite a few photos before they told him to stop.
I wasn’t in the mood for trying anything on, but it was fun to browse.
They had clothes arranged by decade, which is always helpful.
Alriiiiight, I regret not buying this brooch. It was probably overpriced anyway. But it’s so ME!
I don’t think I went overboard in the shopping department. I can probably remember what I bought off the top of my head:
– one Grateful Dead t-shirt
– one present for Corinne
– two pairs of earrings (one I haggled a dude for on Telegraph–he wanted 65, I haggled him down to 40)
– one pair of rainbow knee socks
– one pair of paisley tights
– one “Freak Brothers” comic
– one rainbow heart sticker that says “Love is so gay”
– one Man Ray brooch from the Legion of Honor gift shop
See? That’s not so much. Not for an entire week in San Francisco. Hell, I think I bought more stuff in Maui, and it was INCREDIBLY overpriced over there.
The Boy bought a Grateful Dead t-shirt and some stickers. We went into a couple of record shops, but he wasn’t feeling it.
I’m feeling all the graffiti, meng.
I don’t know about this Forever 27 mural, though. The faces all are a bit wonky, especially poor Jim there. Maybe the artist was on acid!
This Amoeba music building was enormous.
Hell, even this storage building we saw off the freeway is fabulous. San Fran, I love ya!
Stay tuned!
