“Housework can’t kill you, but why take a chance?”
Recently we watched “Goodnight We Love You”, a documentary about Phyllis Diller released in 2004 that captures the moments leading up to her last performance as a stand-up comic after 47 years. She retired at age 84.
What an interesting, funny woman! She plays the harpsichord!
She has a wig room. A wig room! Oh Phyllis, I hear that. It was cute watching her toddle through her massive walk-in closet and talk about each rack of clothing, and the look of excitement on her face when she gets to the performance rack: all sequin dresses, the gaudier, the better. Uh huh.
I didn’t know anything about Phyllis before, had never seen any of her stand-up. She’s really funny! It’s also inspiring that she didn’t even start doing stand-up until she was 37.
Here’s a great video of Phyllis in 1969 on the Ed Sullivan show–check out that sequined stained glass dress she’s wearing–fabbuu. That’s quite a look, Phyllis. And she’s still alive! Laughter is good medicine!
When I finally paint my dog silhouettes most of the work will be done for me, here.
Two days ago they both got fantastically filthy at the dog park so the Boy and I tag teamed up to bathe them outside with the hose, which was co-oo-old. There’s never a quick and easy way to bathe a large dog. However, they smell so nice afterwards. Fur so Fresh!
Peach-colored embroidered Asian-style top (I know those have a name, not “Asian style top”, but it escapes me), courtesy of my mother-in-law’s costume box, which she is always trying to get rid of.
Yesterday I went to the fabric store and purchased more supplies for the Revolution, and my goal today is to whip up two more pairs. I’d like to crank out at least 10 pairs of pettipants before I open the store. Oooh: weather forecast says sunny. YES!
I LOVE Phyllis!
New Years Resolution #23: laugh more!
Oh I so have to see that! Phyllis is the best! Did you see her on Roseanne’s Nuts? I’m sure Kissy can hook you up if you haven’t. Her laugh is absolutely contagious, I love it!
Kissy showed me the clip of her drinking kava kava with Roseanne and Sandra Bernhard–hysterical. And yes–her laugh! It makes me laugh! And those outfits! Auughhh when you watch the documentary, wait til you see her DRIVING OUTFIT–it’s SO Burning Man! She’s delightful!
