While camping on the Cle Elum river, we discover a large fish that we think, at first, is dead. Soon we realize the fish is alive, but barely moving. Assuming he’s stuck, we gently try to redirect the fish into deeper water, but he refuses.

Later on (after we get home) we realize the fish may have been a female, laying eggs. Heigh ho. Live and learn, right?

the Boy: Maybe it just can’t back up.

me: Yeah, like Maggie.
