Maui Part 14: waterfalls and black sandy beaches
Welcome to the next installment of the “Road to Hana” series! This is a big ‘un. Let’s go!
I grabbed this waterfall shot as we drove to the next destination…
…a large waterfall heading into the most gorgeous pool of water.
So beautiful it doesn’t even look real.
The Boy and I had to go exploring above the waterfall.
…taking self-portraits along the way.
Always posing. Work, work, work…
A lot of the houses in Maui were painted this aqua color, which is 1. one of my favorite colors and 2. always the color I’ve envisioned painting my own house, if that ever happens.
Our next stop was this incredible beach with black sand.
This was when it finally caught up with me–the beauty of where I was. The sort of unreality of it all–this place I’d seen in movies and photos all my life–I was there. Intense!
The Boy and I were both fascinated with this rocky arch.
On the far left you can just make out the two tanned teenagers who were walking around in nothing but Speedos. Hi-lar-ious.
Spraypaint-free graffiti: all the rage in Maui.
Down at the black beach. The Boy and I both meant to gather up some black sand for a memento and forgot.
A little kid battles the waves.
Time to remove the shirt. The closer to Hana, the more humid it felt.
Cheesecake! Look at me sucking in my stomach like a 50s starlet.
This is when I informed the Boy that I wanted to live in Maui forever, and ever, and everrrrrrr. On video!
This is my “real smile” according to the Boy, “not that fake one you do all the time”. Well yeah, of course I was smiling. Wouldn’t you?
Those are some cool tree roots.
“Just another day in Maui…la la laaaaaa…”
I totally Zenned out watching the waves crash against the cliffs.
I even made a video:
One last video, featuring a slow pan around, finishing with my smiling face!
Gorgeous and lovely!
p.s. A picture of YOUR finished hat is on my page 🙂
Your “real” smile is SOOOOO beautiful. I was struck by it even before the Boy’s comment, because, well, it felt like that was the first time I’ve seen your teeth… haha. That doesn’t sound right. But I know how it goes with self-portraits vs someone capturing you in a moment of absolute BLISS. 😀
