Maui Part 4: surfboard and snorkel rental and lunch in Lahaina

Welcome back! We’re still on Day 2 of the Maui trip. After the joy and inspiration of the swap meet, we went to a surf shop to rent a surfboard for the week.

colorful surfboards up high

Since we’d been watching surf documentaries and movies about surfing (“Blue Crush”, heh) for weeks leading up to the trip, I was pumped to rent a surfboard.

While the Boy worked out the details, I wandered around the store and took pictures.

the neon board attracted me
Neon board = yes!

A tie-dyed board? I think so!

quatro board with stars
Although I have no interest in wind surfing (regular surfing is fine), I loved this wind surfing board with the neon stars.

bikinis and lunchboxes
They had a cute selection of bikinis, but I brought 6 for the trip (I have a serious bikini collection), so I resisted.

VWs with surfboards
The VW toys with surfboards were everywhere in Maui. On our final day at the toy shop I gave in and bought a Matchbox-sized one. It sits on the kitchen windowsill along with sand, shells, and a few other mementos from Maui.

surfboards galore
Some of those longboards were huge.

Self-portrait with surfboards (of course).

I love the shark board
I LOVE this shark board. It was behind the counter that the surf shop dude was working from, so maybe it was his.

Nice colors!

Hibiscus flowers were everywhere.

Gorgeous.

Orange VW bus! How appropriate! I’m a VW owner/appreciator. They’re really popular around Maui (another reason why I need to move there).

This statue caught my eye.

Next we had lunch at a gorgeous seaside restaurant.

A satisfying meal (like every single one we had that week).

Our final stop was to the snorkel rental place, Boss Frog’s, where I found…
the perfect sunglasses
…the Perfect Sunglasses!

Everyone in the store (customers, employees) was gushing over these sunglasses on my face. After I purchased them and went to walk back outside, one of the employees near the door exclaimed, “You could take a picture of yourself and put it on Facebook!”

“I’m too good for Facebook!” I said in a joking tone of voice (except I wasn’t joking).

“She has her own website!” my mother-in-law piped up happily.

I grimaced (it’s not your fault, Fleeta), because that piece of information is generally one of the LAST things I tell people. My younger brother didn’t even know until this year, when I said, “Hey, didja know I’ve had a blog since 2003?” (he didn’t). Oh well. They didn’t press me for details, and I quickly rushed out the door.

bike rentals
I love the rental bikes–big wide ass seats and roomy baskets. Perfect.

I’m always drawn to the tattoo shops.

Tomorrow’s post will include some beach action: bikinis and snorkel gear and sunburns, oh my!

Guess who has a job interview this afternoon? ME ME ME ME ME ME!!! It’s about friggin’ time, eh?

  1. Where’s the pix of you guys surfing on 100 foot tall waves?

Good luck on the interview, if it doesn’t work out you can use me as a reference to get a job at Target. If you tell them you know somebody at headquarters you can prolly get a job slicing meat in the deli or something sweet like that!
