Maui Part 2: lunch in Lahaina
Continuing where I left off, our first day in Maui. Our hotel was in Lahaina, but before we checked in we stopped in town for some lunch.
The Boy’s parents suggested “Cheeseburger in Paradise”. Sounded good to me.
Of course, since I’d been on a strenuous “veeeegan” diet since January, I ordered a salad. However, it was smothered with coconut shrimp! Fabulous.
While we waited for a table…
…I stepped into the fantastically warm ocean water for the very first time.
The Boy’s capture of that first step. Note my giant grin. “I think so…”
The Boy and his parents didn’t join me, but enjoyed the view of the water instead.
Someone else had the same idea. Who can resist that ocean?
Inside the restaurant. All of the seaside restaurants in Maui are open to the wonderful sea breezes.
Bob tries the world through rose-colored glasses. My glitter sunglasses were a massive hit–I received compliments everywhere we went.
After lunch we wandered around Lahaina a bit–it’s insanely touristy, but fun to walk through (we avoided the shopping and stuck to the restaurants).
I loved the lime-green storefront of the book emporium.
Portrait painter with subject. Check out the Jimi Hendrix painting behind her.
The Boy wore his Jimi Hendrix board shorts (I bought them on ebay in 2009) most of the week during surfing/beach/etc.. One day at a restaurant an older woman at a table beckoned him closer to tell him that she loved his shorts and mentioned her husband taught Jimi in high school. Sweet.
The stand with the shiny rotating mobiles caught my magpie eye, of course. I’m so e-asy.
Cute hippie dude walking down the street strumming a ukulele? Yes please!
The Boy’s parents wanted to show us the Banyan Tree Park, which was fascinating. The entire park springs from one Banyan tree, which is one of the largest Indian Banyan trees in the world.
It was a popular spot, as you might imagine.
I thought it was interesting that the majority of the “graffiti” I saw in Maui was done on trees and leaves of plants.
Green stump. Is that supposed to be a pot leaf scratched into the bark? An upside-down pot leaf?
My husband has to climb everything. His mother told me about how he scaled the kitchen chairs/table/cupboards as a tiny child and gave her quite a scare. I’ve been warned that if we have a male child, he’ll probably be a climber.
Aw, but look at how happy he looks!
Say, we don’t look too shabby for two hours of sleep. Just wait and see how cute we look on Day Two!
For some horrible reason when I uploaded the memory cards (I still have the 600 photos on the old Canon A610 and the underwater cameras to upload as well) it mixed up some of the photos out of sequence, which makes this editing process just that much more difficult.
Until next time!
looks like a fan-tabolous time liz!!!!!
soooo exciting!!!
Oh wow it looks unbelievable!
Also, I couldn’t resist stepping into the ocean, either! So jealous.
