A new year? How queer!
Hello hello hello to the three beautiful people who read this blog (myself included). Here we are at the start of another year, my 22nd year of blathering out my personal life on the internet, and what do I have to show for it? This sparkly aqua turtle, of course. LOOK AT HER.
Also cute: this wooden mushroom with Lunar moths and celestial moons and stars. All glow in the dark, of course. Someone on Threads was bragging about how much art they’ve sold on FB Marketplace and I thought “What the hell” because Etsy has NEVER been lucrative for me and I listed this mushroom, and ONLY this mushroom, on Marketplace. Like a month ago. Maybe more. No takers.
I’m about 3 months behind on this here blog but when I went to upload just the photos from October, there were over 500. And to think, I actually take a lot LESS photos than I used to. Ha! October is always a fun month for us. Near the beginning we were invited to an artist’s collective in Seattle so the whole family went in costume. I scored the coat and dress from Poshmark, sold as a set with a pair of size 9 loafers too (what are the odds) (NOT the ones pictured here–these glitter loafers were an earlier purchase) for only 40 clams. WoW! I’ll probably pay it forward and re-list the whole thing…I don’t have any need to hang onto a brown faux fur coat. Maybe if it was teal.
We later had the opportunity to dress up again at the pumpkin patch, our yearly pilgrimage. I’m obsessed with the pumpkin spice donuts they serve fresh out of the fryer and we generally pick out our pumpkins from the patch too.
“He looks like that Homer Simpson meme!” said Goo about Josh hiding in the stalks. So true. We haven’t yet braved the corn maze–I think the boys need to be a little older.
My sweet little BABY turned 5 in October. Wahhhhhhh! Luckily he still has tiny hands and a high-pitched voice which helps me cope with his rapid aging. It occurred to me recently that I am now a whopping 45 years old, and the last 5 years that have passed after the birth of my BABY have gone by at a break-neck speed. Which means the next 5 years will too, and then what? I’ll be 50. 50 years old! NooooOOOOoooooOOO!
At least I can say despite my Advanced Age, I’m always trying to stay as healthy as possible. For example, joining a yoga studio with my friend this year and once a week engaging in the toughest 75 minute long session they have. I can ALMOST do crow pose. So close.
I am also art docent for Goo’s class (first art docent outfit pictured above), and it has been SO fun! I wish I had started earlier. That’s the cool thing about having two kids–I can do it all over again when my baby starts school.
I did three art shows this year, not too shabby. I’ve recently taken a break from painting (I could never paint again and still have a shitload of paintings to sell) to work on writing and illustrating a children’s book. Bucket List!
November was less busy (only 200 pictures taken!). I did a night art show at a club in downtown Seattle, which was fun. It was a “Pancakes and Booze” show where the cocktails weren’t free, but you could have as many mini pancakes drizzled in syrup and butter as you wanted while perusing art.
I was pretty happy that my friend Rachel bought the axolotl painting to give to her son Azure, who is one of Goo’s BFFs. I’ve had a lot of fun this year branching out to bugs and sea creatures!
My November art docent lesson was to draw our houses, but add imaginary patterns and colors to make it fun! I liked this lesson a lot. The first lession I taught was on self-portraits (of course).
We celebrated Thanksgiving and also Fleeta’s 75th birthday in Spokane near the end of the month, where I accidentally left behind my sequin party dress. Whoops!
The dress in question, still probably hanging up in Brenna’s old bedroom closet. I would have worn it for New Years. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
