I got that summertime, summertime sickness

Howdy blog! It’s been a bit. Let’s travel back in time to July, when we went to the family cabin for a glorious, sun-soaked and carb-heavy week of FUN.

No Fleeta and Bob this year, as Bob was suffering with a catheter while awaiting surgery. No Mom this year, she was suffering while awaiting her own surgery, which finally happened 4 days ago (YAY). Nobody stayed with us except my friend Lisa, who showed up and stayed for a couple days, as is our custom, with her daughters and her grandson Del.

We overspent last year, so this year the trip to the cabin was our one and only vacation. And what a fabulous vacation! Perfect weather, no wildfire smoke. No um, MAJOR injuries, heh heh heh. No bear this year (Bob secured the outdoor trash cans).

As always, I am grateful that we all have such a beautiful place to spend a week at. If it weren’t a gnarly 6-7 hour drive over (we stopped in Spokane to break it up), I’d love to go more than once a year. But once a year is fabulous.

I did have to bribe the little redhead with some brownies to get him on the sailboat with Josh, but he finally went out, and so did Goo. I stayed behind to uh, “relax”. You understand. We paddleboarded, floated, went to town for ice cream in the motorboat, went for daily walks. All the good things!

It’s always nice to see Lisa. Although her new haircut was jarring. I can’t really say much because I chopped my own hair off almost a year ago! NEVER AGAIN. Seriously, it takes so long to grow out!

I spent the summer (which always goes by way too fast–and yes I know it’s technically still summer but when the kids are back to school, it’s OVER for me!) prepping for the gorgeous outdoor art show in Ballard that I love doing. I had everything ready to go: cool new table covers, framed prints, even candy and stickers to hand out. And then the day before the show, I TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID AGAIN. ROUND FOUR.

In order of infection, it went: babysitter, Josh, me, then the little redhead. Goo was miraculously spared. I credit the multiple illnesses he had in kindergarten to keeping his immune system strong…ish. Due to our dumb healthcare job requirements, if Josh tested positive on day 3 or 5, he couldn’t go back to work for 10 days. He tested positive on day 5. So you know what we did?

We went camping for three days! In one of our favorite post-children (no hiking) places near Roslyn. It rained, it hailed, some dumbass blared horrid 80s rock at night, by day 3 Rosie could barely walk and guess what? It was STILL better than suffering with Covid at home, ie. Mommy (that’s me) picking up after 3 (that’s right) boys all day long while also being sick. FUCK THAT!

I was pissed about missing the art show for a complete 24 hours but then I had to get over it. There’s always next year. In November I’m doing a night art show called “Booze and Pancakes” in downtown Seattle that sounds fun! Even for a non-drinker like myself. I know how to talk to drunks, I was one from age 21-28. I get them.

More about my adventures with fake hair later! This was a short re-cap but I have shit to do. Next time: the Watermelon Party and going to a fun art show without buying anything: it can be done! Ta ta for now.
