Art, nature, and a new baby

Untitled

‘sup, blog? I thought about you a few times during the month of May but I was just SO DARN BUSY that now I finally have a little time to spend with you again. Mom is over keeping the boys entertained with homemade play dough and Josh is outside doing outside work and here I am with lots of back support and a cup ‘o’ tea. Did I tell you that I finally made my graffiti bucket list come true by making my own slap stickers? I put one on my water bottle, here. YUM. (homage to “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”, by Tom Robbins)

Let’s work our way through May, via my photos. Joshy made this strawberry and banana cake, just because the little redhead said it sounded good. WAS good. Mmmmmmm.

Untitled

My mother reminded me of the “Tiny Art” show at a local library, and this year Goo and I both did a little painting for it. I did “Drag is Love” in defense/adoration of my beloved drag queens, who are under fire this year. He did a little ladybug. The paintings were displayed for a month and when we picked them up, he eyed his work critically and said, “I could do better now.” That’s the spirit, my boy!

Untitled

YUM in the wild! Sad to say this is the only wild YUM I’ve slapped up so far. I need to get out more, haw haw haw.

Untitled

I’m doing a 2 day art show in August so I’ve been doing the fun glitter wooden pieces that 1. I enjoy doing and 2. seem to be popular. Thanks to IG, I sold “Priscilla the Purple Turtle” immediately! Couldn’t be happier with her, or her new owner.

Untitled

“Beverly the butterfly” was also completed recently, and will be in the show. There’s just something about purple this year! I have actually run out of some of my purple glitters.

Untitled

Welllll just call me Edina Monsoon, sweetie darling sweetie, I had my first colonic. I had to. I tend to get constipated on trips, and Oahu was no exception. I was horribly constipated the entire week we were there, and it continued when we came home, so I booked myself my very first colonic and the woman helping me said the machine removed THREE WEEKS OF POOP. No wonder I looked pregnant! I’ll only do it again if I um, have to.

Untitled

A trip to the beach with my boys. It was extremely rocky. We stopped at Fred Meyer’s on the way there to get Goo some “beach shoes”. He’s so picky about sandals that I actually gave in and bought him some of those shameful (faux) Crocs (I know!), but he broke the strap before he even had a chance to wear them on the beach and ended up barefoot the entire time. Same with the little redhead. Tough feet!

Untitled

It was a beautiful spring day. Next time we go to the beach as a family, we’ll have a dog with us again! (more about her later)

Untitled

Adventures in eyeshadow palettes! Very important, you know. I have switched my (temporary) allegiance to Colourpop. The pigmentation is amazing, and I love the colors. I wear at least one shade every single day.

Untitled

Spring is such a magical time of year, especially when it’s not raining. I love watching our yard blossom.

Untitled

I found this somewheres online and thought it was hilarious (also I love Betsey Johnson). Tetris! I used to play Tetris! (didn’t everyone?) I can still sing the theme music. Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo! Doo doo doo doo, doo doo, doo doo.

Untitled

I bought myselt this 1979 tee on one of those tee-shirt websites. Embracing my age, sweetie darling. It’s 39.

Untitled

Yearly mammogram. I can tell you that the second one was a LOT less stressful than the first one. I get the 3D one, it’s completely covered by insurance and they tell you the results immediately. Important!

Untitled

Nature walk! We brought along Goo’s mushroom book and I loaded a mushroom identification app on my phone. We found lots of mushrooms, but I was a little too leery about actually bringing them home and eating them. Ahem.

Untitled

“My butt looks fat in this picture,” Josh complained.

“Mmmmmm,” I replied, dreamily.

Untitled

I went to my old hairdresser at her new location and had her just blend some “lowlights” into my hair. I keep thinking I’ll let my roots grow out but then they look too dark and I get frustrated and bleach them. Over and over and over again. Being blonde is so addictive!

Untitled

Goo’s teacher gave him a “hornworm tobacco” caterpillar to take home and keep in a container, as she’s not indigenous to the area. She arrived a gorgeous mint color so Goo named her “Minty”. Minty is currently in a chrysalis and we are awaiting her triumphant return as a moth!

Untitled

Goo had a super cool “Art Walk” at his school and we went, of course! I bid on 3 pieces and won 2. I love kid art so much! We’ll be attending the Walk every year, I hope.

Untitled

My rainbow-loving redhead!

Untitled

One of the pieces I won. The class had made two of these dog pieces, and the other one had more bids but was in earth tones. Can you imagine?

Untitled

This faux “Chihuly” made from plastic cups was the other piece I won. I met the artist as I was picking it up the next day and she was very enthusiastic about it, as was I. It’s cool! And it will look great in our kitchen, against the aqua paint.

Untitled

But the BIGGEST news of all was that in May, we got a new baby! I completely lucked out. I had been looking at puppies for a while online. Someone had warned me a long time ago that you can’t just waltz into your local shelter and just pluck up any ol’ mutt (ie Maggie and Bear Cub). Nowadays you have to apply for the dog, and hope your application gets chosen.

Untitled

I had put in at least a dozen applications for various mutts and Labs–I certainly wasn’t looking for a purebred–when I was contacted by a woman whose Lab had a litter of black Labs. 7 pups, 6 boys and one little girl. So three weeks ago, while Josh was skiing, the boys and I drove two hours away to Rainier and got the little girl.

Untitled

Goo and I had compiled a name list but as soon as we saw her face I said “ROSIE.”

Untitled

If I’d had a girl instead of two boys, her name would have been Eleanor Rose Holcomb. Kind of funny because I meet little girls named “Ellie” constantly. And “Rose” is my cousin Flynn’s daughter’s name as well. It’s a great name! How about Rosalind Russell Holcomb? I haven’t run that one by the boys yet.

Untitled

She was, essentially, my Mother’s Day present. Oh Josh also got me a handheld vacuum cleaner and a chandelier. Typical Mom stuff.

Untitled

We take her to work with us and she’s SO GOOD! All that crazy wild normal biting and chewing and nipping stuff she does at home. RIP Maggie dog, but Rosie is the smartest Lab I’ve ever had. I’m sure Luna was smart too. But Maggie would regularly run into walls with her head. Oh Maggie dog!

Untitled

This photo is cute but in real life, the boys are quite cautious with her. They were used to old dogs that ignore them, not new puppies that want to chew chew chew! It’s been a real teaching experience the past three weeks.

Untitled

When she’s calm, she’s a sweet sweet sweet love. Ahhhhh puppy snuggles. They go by so fast.

Untitled

I know how fast the puppy days go by so I asked Josh if he would take some nice pics of her outside with the portrait setting.

Untitled

What a beauty!

Well, an hour of blogging is good enough for this lady. I’m taking it easy on my back this weekend in preparation for a very exciting show I’ll be attending yaahhhhhh! I’m not gonna miss this one, like Tove Lo! Catch yer later, blog.
