Give em the old razzle dazzle
October 6th for reference here: my last salon haircut. Also the last day that my current hairdresser worked at the salon in Lynnwood I’ve gone to for years–she’s moving to a different salon up north. And do you know? This was the first disappointing hair cut I ever received from her. Where was the magic? The good feelings? The flattering post-haircut selfie? This ain’t it, friends. For my birthday yesterday I bought myself a flat feathering razor–that’s right, it’s DIY time! RESULTS PENDING.
Joshy and I dressed up to see Trixie and Katya perform! During a chance conversation about drag queens, my new gay boss told me that his boyfriend was seeing the two biological women perform downtown the following evening. I immediately bought two tickets (which were still available) and Josh and I went! Yay!
This photo may be a teensy filtered, heh heh hehhhh. I loved the crowd–straights, gays, lots of sequins, lots of enthusiasm! Josh and I wore N95’s of course. Ever since Goo started kindergarten the illness in our home has been rampant.
Not only has 2 months of school taught my son how to read and write (well, write a lot BETTER), but he has been creating up a storm! I am such a pleased mama.
October was very very warm. Here we are at the park on one of the extra-wide swings that I looooove.
Despite the constant infections we were All In for Halloween, like every other year of our lives. The little redhead and I made a couple trips to the party store.
I am pretty anti-photoshop (which is hilarious) BUT these dumb Instagram filters that smooth my under-bags and give me eyelashes while I’m sicker than shit certainly are…nice.
My sweet little redhead baby (forever my baby) turned 3 in October. Look at those waves! Look at those giant feet!
This is what I looked like for his birthday. Instead of taking an assortment of unflattering candid photos of everyone standing around, or eating food, I warned everyone in advance and took individual portraits of every guest with the “portrait” setting on my iphone 10. As a result, I have nice pictures of everyone at the party! However Flickr doesn’t post photo sets as a group, but they are all on my Instagram. I’m not sure why I keep saying that as the only people who read this blog are Me Myself and I (infrequently).
My children refuse to be coaxed into wigs (“Too itchy!” they cry), but the little redhead has taken an active interest in my turbans and for that I say THANK YOU, SON.
Halloween 2022 my old man and I dressed up as Louise Brooks and Charlie Chaplin. I was pretty set on the Louise costume, and I wanted to pick a man that Louise had slept with, and Charlie was probably the most well-known.
Goo was a Ghost”busty” and the little redhead was a very muscular Batman. This picture cracks me up! I want it to be our Christmas card this year. That reminds me, I need to get on that project.
It’s hard for me to believe I never dressed up as Louise for Halloween until this year. I know I had a Louise bobbed wig before that somehow got “lost”, so this is my NEW Lulu wig. Hell, I have one in every other color! Neon yellow, magenta, purple, pink. I use to have a cobalt blue one but it also “disappeared”. And my new aqua one. It’s a great shape.
The family at the pumpkin patch! Maybe this should be our Christmas card too. Let’s see–Goo and Josh were sick this day. We rotated illness for about two months.
What is this blog, all pictures of me? Well YEAH APPARENTLY. Josh took this and a few lovely people I know from Instagram photoshopped the background black for me to look just like the photo of Louise. So nice!
I remember laying on the couch at home hacking up a lung when Josh sent me this photo of him and his co-workers performing a choreographed disco dance for a dance contest at work. They won. He has all the fun, I swear!
Because the Lynnwood Goodwill treats my ass right, I actually managed to find a friggin’ GRAPES COSTUME this year, which was my costume on Halloween day. Dreams come true, friends. Mood board it, and it will happen for you.
In true Pacific Northwest fashion, it poured rain on Halloween night. I made Josh buy umbrellas (!) and we went out anyway. Important shtuff!
My wonderful mother-in-law gifted me her old sewing table and it’s PERFECT oh man after years I am so happy to have my own permanent sewing nook! Now I need to re-learn to use my serger again! It’s been 10 years since I made pettipants. Wow.
First a made a little blankie for chocolate bear, to match the one I made for the little redhead. He actually still prefers the original “softy blankie” I made for him before he was born, with the minkie fabric on one side. That minkie fabric is a crowd pleaser.
In October I painted Morticia and Gomez Addams (I still need to buy black Gothic frames to complete them); in November I painted this attempt to make a painting look like stained glass. It was harder than I thought! It has a thick coat of Mod Podge on it now and looks pretty cool. I haven’t listed it in my Etsy shop yet.
My mom texted me this photo of my grandma Blanche and her boyfriend “Dicky Poo”. She loved wigs, crossword puzzles, and unfiltered Pal Mal ciggies. She died when I was only two years old, which is such a shame, isn’t it? We would have gotten along so well, my aunts always tell me.
OBSESSED with the “Drag Hag” patch my friend Stephanie sent me! She goes to Drag Con every year because she lives in Palm Springs (lucky) and always sends me goodies. I need to go.
In between colds mid-November I went out for a very expensive delicious brunch at “The Rusty Pelican” in Woodinville with my former boss, Gandhali. It was a 45 minute wait, but they keep your coffee/tea constantly replenished and offer you a tray of pastries right as you sit down. Mmmmm.
The little redhead gets a home haircut from Daddy. His hair is too short now, but thankfully it will grow back (she sniveled).
November was freakishly cold and sunny (what is this?), and I’m very happy that the little redhead and I enjoyed lots of very slowwww toddler-paced walks outside with our puffy coats on. Look at how he turns his tongue sideways, what is that all about?
Goo’s picture that he created at school for “I like my horse” made me laugh so hard, I immediately submitted it to one of my favorite Instagram accounts, “Awkward Family Photos”. They haven’t posted it yet but I hope they do! It’s perfect!
Here’s my selfie musing “Is everyone in the whole world sick right now?” and then the very next day I fell ill with Influenza A, after Goo and Josh got it. IT SUCKED. This was weeks ago and I’m still coughing up vaguely green phlegm.
It came on very suddenly. The day before, I had finally persuaded the little Korean lady who does my nails to give me the half-moon mani I’d obsessed over for years. Then: chills, fever, body aches, exhaustion, one horrible headache, coughing, runny nose. And I got my usual flu shot this year, mind you.
So naturally, we couldn’t go to GG’s. The only saving grace was that Josh and I staggered our flus, so I took care of the boys on the weekend when he was ill and he made the full Thanksgiving dinner for us while I was in bed.
Roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green salad, rolls, and a pumpkin pie from scratch. Influenza A fucks around with your taste buds, and nothing really tasted good to me until my birthday yesterday, when I had a half a maple bar. However! My goal was to hit 149 pounds in time for my birthday, and I hit that yesterday. I haven’t weighed in the 140’s since Josh and I went to NYC in 2015, when I was training for a half marathon and got my weight down to 145. Thanks, constant illness!
My birthday was great as it always is and I’ll discuss that next time. Time for a sandwich. Good-bye, blogger loggies.
