Hey, soul sister
What’s the word, turds? I forgot about you last month blog, and I’m SORRY. Well, not really. You may have flickered through my consciousness but I was too busy ahhhh…taking naps.
Here’s one of the two skirts I made myself in July. This is a gorgeous marbled silk-like rayon that may/may not shred apart in the future. The other skirt was a super-soft floral knit, so soft that Goo insists on keeping the scraps of fabric left over for him to touch. He’s a tactile little guy.
Here I am 2 days post-Lasik, back in mid-July! It didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. When I was literally under the laser it was revealed that my left eye had a “sticky flap”. Apparently when you have this type of eye it’s better to go with the other type of eye surgery, the kind that doesn’t need a flap lift. Basically what this meant was that the right eye was immediately clear the morning after surgery, but the left eye took considerably longer to heal/become “clear”. In fact it’s now early September as I’m writing this and I just now feel like the left eye is clearing up.
Sticky flap issues aside, no more glasses! (FOR NOW) No more annoying contacts! My Latisse-enhanced lashes can really SHINE!
Even though it’s technically still “summer”, you could have fooled me. The weather since mid-August has been distinctly Fall-like. Cooler temps, rain, lots of overcast days. However, no friggin’ wildfire smoke!
The current project. It’s taken me a month, but who’s counting? I’m currently at the glitter stage.
Let’s face it, this summer RULED compared to last summer, when I came down with the Rona on July 20th and then basically suffered until mid-September, when we went to the cabin. Last summer sucked.
My mother finally moved out. She moved in with a former co-worker of Josh and I who we have known for yeeeeeears, and results are uh, “mixed” to say the least. I would love to blab about the entire situation in detail but I don’t know, I don’t do that any more, here. Seems rude.
Back to the gym! It had been over a year. So far I’ve only gone a couple times, and now I have to wear a mask again, as the mask mandate has returned. I actually signed up again because the childcare re-opened, but after a discussion Josh and I decided not to let the children back into the gym. Too risky with the Delta variant running rampant.
Joshy and I celebrated our 13th anniversary with dinner at “Hot Cakes” in Ballard, mmmmm.
I told Josh I would like to do something special for our 15th anniversary, like maybe a trip to New Orleans, just the two of us. No kids!
Speaking of special, Josh and I finally had a night to ourselves for the first time since January 2017! My in-laws watched the boys at their house while we spent a night at the cabin. ALONE. It was glorious. We struggled to stay awake until 10, but it was still wonderful.
We always have such a great time at the cabin. Next year I’d like to book two weeks. My mother came down with a really, really bad cold right before we left, otherwise she would have joined us. The in-laws stayed with us a couple night; Lisa and her two daughters stayed with us one night.
We had four beautiful clear days and nights before the wildfire smoke moved in.
We swam, we floated, we ate. Since we walked two miles every morning, I actually didn’t gain any weight (for the first time ever!).
Of course, God forbid I even TRY to vacation without being on my period. It started FIVE DAYS EARLY.
My fake tan lasted a couple of days.
Supposedly it was around 90 degrees, but it feels cooler on the lake.
Ha, ha!
Lisa and I have the sort of easy friendship where we might see each other once a year, but we always pick up like no time has passed at all.
This time Lisa brought Sadie and Aurora. Aurora was a typical moody teenager–she spent 98% of the time listening/watching her phone, refused to swim/eat/have fun, but Sadie, heavily pregnant (!) with her first child, had a great time with Goo. He loved her.
Well onwards and upwards, right? We were supposed to go camping this weekend, but the baby has a bad cold that Josh came down with as well, and Saturday morning I was crippled with a knee injury from being dumb at the gym, so I guess camping is over for this year. So what do we have to look forward to next? Halloween! Here is part of my Lady Miss Kier costume.
The green grapes grew this year; the purple ones didn’t, darn it. Hopefully next year.
So many days spent eating popsicles on the back patio. Well, so long summer! See you next year.
